BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!
NEW TIMES AHEAD!
This is it! SHU BALL Stars hang up their Hallam jerseys and move on! Never again will you see Platten, McKinney, Kermode, Dignan, French, Sparham, Cowell or Keys in the maroon army again on a game day! The Stars have gone so who is left to take over?
-
JAMES CHERRINGTON - Skip this year has found his place on team, from the boy scared to play to the bullet flying through the lane! Skip has proven his worth on the team this year and deserved his place in the first 5. He has still got a lot to learn about the game, but has the potential to do so. His tempermental play will need to stop if he is to step up next year, but my favourite again improve the most! He's to quick for most in the Trophy, but can he step up and be the scorer on this team?
-
SIMON WHITTINGHAM - Many people doublted Plattens belief in Whittinghams potential! But no-one questioned the outcome. Rookie went from bench warmer to starter keeping digs out of the starting line up! Undersized as a bigman but unchallanged on the boards! Rookie will be the man to get 20 boards a game, but if he can develop a strong put back move (and not rely on his fade away J) over summer, then he may become the scorer he team, more so if he cuts out his crazy shots!!!!! Rookie has come along way from the start of the season and has masses of potential to go even further!
-
PAUL LOCKWOOD - Paul is on placement next year, but if he is available to play then he will be Mr MVP of next years team. Enough said about Paul, gives you 100% every game. He's a quiet player, maybe a little too quiet. But he's a prolific scorer and effecient rebounder, but can he handle the pressure of being the star of the team?
-
GRAEME STANLEY LAWSON - The sharp shooter in practice has one season left to put his practice capabilities into the games! For a guy who scores on you practice after practice very rarely scores any more than 5 points per game! If he finds his confidence in games then you'll be blowing teams out. He's also got the best handle for next years team and will be my main man as on court general, plus who can question the noise and intensity he brings on D?
-
SHAUN NEEDHAM - For the first time ever Shaun got angry! But Darfields game when the Chief was silent in the time-out, who became the leader? Shaun led the time-out from start to finish, i think we may have found ourselves next years coach? But Shaun was more known for his streaky shooting! Hot for 1 quarter dropping 3's and cold the next! He's gonna be the main threat from outside breaking down zone D's from all angles!
-
WILL MCILLROY - Mr enthusiastic from the start, but never became a part of this team till late! Safe, safe hands and agressive D, if Will develops an outside shot then he could become the teams MVP, he fears no-one and is strong at penertrating the hole, look out for this kid through the seasons!
-
ASH STAFFORD - Will Ash ever get any sleep? Starting to prove his worth in training a little to late, but his height and growing confidence to dunk could prove to be vital! Ash needs to develop a stronger mentality for the game and be aware of others on the court! If he could go right then he would be twice the player he is today! I have faith in Ash pulling through next year and being the suprise package! Rookie will have his hands full keeping Ash on the bench, trust me!
-
MATTI NASH - The return of a legend! Matti is a great player and will undoubtly be top scorer game in game out for next years team. But how long will he be involved for? He drifts in and out of games and practices, will he still be picked if he doesn't show for training? Matti if committed, will have the most court knowledge and be the play caller, but how long will he be on court for? He's been chucked out of more games than the refs making bad calls.
-
GARETH ROBERTSON - Gaz's will be a vital member to the squad next year with his big screens and money 10ft J. he's getting better each year, so why not next year? Gaz will be a valuable member of next years team, so watch out for him!
The Chief goes and who is left to take over? Who will be next seasons on court general? Someone needs to step up and take charge! Who's gonna pick the team, call the ref's, organise the table, call sub's, run training, edit the site, wash the kit, sort out away days? Who will you listen to? Have your vote on our poll from the following candidates:
-
James Cherrington
-
Graeme Lawson

Simon Whittingham

A LOOK BACK AT 2003-2004 SHU PLAYERS!
Trial day look to produce nothing! How many potential stars would you see making their way into the 2 teams? The first team took what they thought was the the best of the bunch, but their season ended being the worst season in 4 years in the weakest league in 4 years! So who was left? Recruitment seen us get Rookie, Shaun, Will, Keys, and mr Clutch. But could these guys replace Mario, Cerille, Matti, Kirky and Fordy? All of which where big time key players keeping the likes of Skip on the bench.
Last year we went 11-0 before christmas break and never once came close to losing! This year weve scrapped and battle for victories entering Christmas 7-3. We lost our 1st ever BUSA home game in history to a rampant MAN MET team. The biggest proble this team has faced throughout the season is stopping teams scoring inside. This is our 1st year ever we looked so fragile! We can't blame Rookie and Digs, because they have had no support and weve relied on them too much! Last years team may have been the best SHU team to have ever played, but it didn't have as much team togetherness that this team had! Where we lacked in quality, we made up in hustle and aggression.
After christmas, the team had finnaly found it's feet going on 6 game winning streak. Playing like the team we were! We put in performances that no other SHU team had produced. The trip to Leeds was not only impressive, but we became unstoppable as a unit and this was evident as we destroyed arch rivals Northumbria at home! SHU was here and we were hot! Next came Worcester, 1st round of the play-offs and a new experience to many. The result? Game over by half-time, we were too good, too quick! We would have beaten anyone that day!
We then ventured across the hills to Manchester, to face man uni's 1st team, Our first team lost to the guys, so we were expected to get a drubbing! think again! We were awesome again, this was the best 1st half performance a SHU team could ever produce we frustrated them left, right and centre! Lookout! But all good things come to an end and we ended up throwing the game away, rather than loosing! Man Uni cheated and the hearing afterwards went against us! BUSA once again proved to live up to their name as Big Useless Spastic Association!
So what was left? Surely all the hard work was to leave us with some credit? Last chance; Sbl cup. Final game of the season left us playing against Darfield for a place in the final! Winner takes all and we didnt take anything, not even any pride in our performance. It was a sad effort from those leaving. Sorry all, we should have won that! But non the less, this has been my favourite year as a shu baller, just wish it would never end! Good luck for next year and i will miss you all!
