EDGE HILL 85

1st 5: Graeme Lawson, James Cherington, Simon Whittingham, Ash Stafford, Vito Berzanskis
Bench: Shaun Needham, Nicky Marshall, Matt Holman
'Northumbria away' is not what many SHU ball veterans want to hear after the corrupt playoff game 2 years before. But this year SHU arrived with a raw team, with only two weeks training under their belt, plus only two players (Geordie + Skip) from the Massacre 2 years ago. Their team were all fresh faces as well, and on average were around 3-4 inches taller than our team.
As predicted straight from the tip Northumbria ran the full court press, they slowly were increasing the deficit and also some of our players tempers, especially with one of their players constantly shouting '6,6,6'. We were trying to keep up with them from fast breaks by 'V' (Scored first three baskets) and Rookie. But still the lead was getting larger, by the first quarter they had an 11 point lead.
The second quarter the Northumbria continued to get put backs increasing the lead to its largest of the game to 16 points. It was time for change!! Going from a Man-man to a 3-2 zone knocked the Northumbria players for six!! they could not play run any of there offences. With the all-out intensity everyone gave we got a easy steals and Geordie shouting his mouth off from the bench. It was still 8 point lead before the end of the half, Geordie hit a three then 10 seconds later Vito stole the ball and were down by three at the half. MAGIC!!
Following the same zone we continued to steal the ball pulling the lead to 6. The Northumbria team began to find ways into the paint and SHU ball began to rush up shots. The lead depleted back to 0 at the end of the half. We had a battle on our hands!!
In the fourth there was no difference in both teams the score kept seesawing all the way to the end. In the last minute Northumbria were up by one, Geordie was then fouled and made both, there number 6 was fouled and made one of two free throws. Down one with 19 seconds to go, Geordie got the inbounds passed to Shaun on the wing dribbled into the key, was fouled coolly made both free throws, we were up by 1 with 3 seconds to go. They got the inbounds to number 10 ran to the halfway line threw up a wild shot... the whistle blew 'reach in' by Ash Stafford!! the player made 2/3 they won by one.
-Although the foul ash played strong in defence throughout the game.
-All the players played tough loud defence in the forth.
-Vito is a board monster.
-Geordie is a Sheffield Shark!!!
